Lupus Support Group for Women of Color (LSGFWOC) is a peer-led, community-centered organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and empowering women of color living with lupus.
Founded in 2014 by Mary Wells, a lupus warrior since 1997, and Stephanie Brown, a lupus warrior since 2008, LSGFWOC was born from lived, experience, faith, and the belief that no women of color should have to navigate lupus in isolation.
What began as a small support network has grown into a trusted community connecting lupus warriors across Wisconsin, multiple U.S. states, and internationally. Through peer support, education, advocacy, wellness conversations, and meaningful partnerships, we work to ensure women feel seen, heard, and supported beyond diagnosis.
We recognize that lupus disproportionately affects women of color, yet too many continue to face barriers in awareness, access, support, and equitable care. LSGFWOC exists to help bridge those gaps through trusted community, shared lived experience, health education, and advocacy.
Healing through community education that empowers advocacy that amplifies voices. Trust built through lived experience wellness that supports the whole woman, creating safe spaces where lupus warriors can connect, learn, and thrive.
Today, LSGFWOC continues to grow as a community-led voice focused on trust, healing, education, advocacy, and long-term support for women of color living with lupus.
You are not alone. We are stronger together.
